Class Of 2007

Why FIT? It’s the best of the best. If you want to study fashion; you go to FIT.

Year graduated? 2007

Major? FMM

Where do you find inspiration? Everywhere from the streets of NY to the streets of Seattle.

What is your most memorable experience while attending FIT? The friends I made. Today they are my family.

Did you stay close or in contact with any of your college friends? HAHA, yes, see above. Made friends on my floor in Nagler Hall who are like family to me now.

Advice to spring graduates? Yes, figure out what you love. I love buying but not necessarily into buying clothes after years at Bloomingdale’s. At the end of the day, you are going to change and grow. Don’t be afraid to change.

You’ve been in the industry for a decade, what experiences led you to who you are today? During FIT I worked for one year at RK Bridal being a store manager and buying dresses. That’s when I knew I wanted to be a buyer. After graduation, I started at Bloomingdales.com and took their catalog business and launched the website and designer business. I loved buying but I was quickly burnt out with fashion. A co-worker from Bloomies moved to work at Barnes & Noble. I shortly followed and started buying for their toys and games department. When I was growing up, I loved puzzles. It was the hardest and scariest decision I ever made deciding to leave fashion for the toy industry. I grew their toy business and developed product with vendors and took over their trend business. After three years at B&N, I was recruited to work for a Seattle based company FUNKO. I had worked directly with them at B&N and helped them become the #1 account in the collectable toys business. In 2014, I started a new me in the New Year and moved from Queens, NY to Seattle, Washington with nothing but a pillow and my puppy, Yogi. I started as the general manager and launched their direct consumer business and four websites. After two years of being a part of the comapny, I'm excited to see the direction it will take in 2017.

Daily routine? First coffee! Then emails, artist and financial meetings and the end of the day is my favorite with walks near Lake Washington and cuddles with my dog, Yogi.

Where are you from? And how did this shape the person you are today? I’m from a small, rural town Zanesville, Ohio. Where I’m from allowed me to be a kid. It drove me to want a bigger city, the best city in my opinion- New York City.

What do you find that sparks creativity? The people I work with. I work in a talented office with artists. I’m always blown away at what they can do and makes me want to be better. Their attention to detail to take an idea from a meeting and create a collectable toy.

What three things you can’t live without? Coffee, Yogi, and chocolate.

Future projects you are working on? I just bought my first house! I plan to pull back from my career and focus on my house.
